RAPID SKILLS NEEDS ASSESSMENT IN MARINE-BASED RENEWABLE ENERGY & THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Client: Centre for Researching Education & Labour (REAL), Wits University
Funder: International Labour Organisation (ILO)
To support the ILO’s green and blue economy agenda in Mauritius and Seychelles, research was undertaken to assess 1) current and emerging skills supply and demand needs for ocean wind and biomass-based renewables, and the circular economy, and 2) skills supply implications for TVET institutions to deliver the relevant skills. Insights suggest a disconnect between technological readiness and skills supply; the need for core versus specialist skills; and how best to integrate and skill SMEs and women.
